Carnauba wax, the most important vegetable wax in terms of economic possible applications, is extracted from the leaves of the carnauba (Copernicia prunifera), a Brazilian palm. The Copernicia prunifera, the palm from which Carnauba wax is extracted, grows along rivers, valleys, and lagoons in the Brazilian Northeast, Sri Lanka, Africa and some other South-American countries.<\/p>

The process of producing this wax consists of: collecting Brazilian palm leaves and drying them in the sun, pounding the leaves manually or using a machine to separate the wax from the leaves, boiling the obtained powder with water and then cooling it, breaking the cold raw wax into small pieces, purifying the raw wax using heating filtration to remove impurities and cooling the final products, which is obtained as a powder or flaked with yellow, yellowish white and dark brown colors.<\/p>

Carnauba wax is the hardest wax and has the highest melting point of any commercial natural wax, has low solubility and is predominantly comprised of aliphatic esters and diesters of cinnamic acid. Its components are relatively inert and stable. Due to these and other characteristics carnauba wax has been widely used in different industries such as food industry, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in automotive and furniture polishes.<\/p>

Applications & Types: <\/strong>In the food industry both types of carnauba wax, including powder and flakes with yellow and yellowish white colors, are popularly used to keep candy coatings shiny, as well as protecting them against melting it\u2019s what makes sure candies melt in your mouth and not in your hand. It\u2019s found in fruit snacks and gummy candies, where it provides texture and stability. It\u2019s also used as a coating on fresh fruits and vegetables to keep them looking attractive, as well as for protecting them during the shipping process. So, while wax sounds unappealing, remember carnauba is natural and plant-derived and the alternative is a melted candy.<\/p>

Other uses:<\/strong> Carnauba wax has other uses in various industries. In the cosmetics industry, the most common goods made with carnauba wax are eyeliners, lipsticks, foundations, skincare items, deodorants, and eyeshadow. Also, the substance is hypoallergenic, which is a fantastic quality for many cosmetic items. In the pharmaceuticals industry, many medicinal pills and tablets employ carnauba wax as a tablet coating material. In the leather industry, Carnauba wax is useful for preventing water damage to leather goods. Because it is hydrophobic, the material is not soluble in water and in the cars, Carnauba wax with dark brown color, enhances the appearance and protection of your vehicle. The wax can shield your car from UV rays from the sun, brighten your car’s mirrors, and shield the paint from other factors outside.<\/p>
